There has been a fire drill in my university just now which makes me have so much reflection...
I had been reading the news about Japan nuclear plant leaks incident, to witness (although my info is just from newspaper) how the whole nation of Japan responses to the incident really makes me pay the utmost respect to Japanese... Why I said so? The reason is so obvious and simple: despite the seriousness of the incident, there is no chaos which normally caused by panicked human! Of course i'm so sure that all the Japanese is frightened and in despair but throughout the whole process they are handling it calmly and wisely... Can't you realize how high level of public awareness Japanese have?? Can you imagine what will happen if this case happen in Thailand, Vietnam or even in Malaysia?? Which leads to the point why I'm blogging here....
Just now, we were just having a simple fire drill in UTP, (an Engineering institute!) what can i see? Students kept complaining and lamenting; Low efficiency and effectiveness from the organizer (they didn't even check whether all the students were at the assembly point or not!) Isn't it the fire drill main purpose is to increase to awareness of us how to handle the fire incident? If we don't do it as if the hostel is really on fire, how can we make sure we really know how to response during the real incident??!!! And what's the most ironic is that we are future engineers!!! We are the one who studying science and technology! Come on! Can we be counted on to help the uneducated citizen in Malaysia when any disaster strike Malaysia? We can't even help ourselves!! I feel so ashamed!
This really makes me realize how poor it is the public awareness that Malaysians have and how poor it is the authority's effort to increase public awareness... Malaysia is really so peaceful and Malaysians are so much in comfort zone... And I believe Malaysians will perish first in any globally natural disaster incident...
